At the Yoga Room you will find teachers that teach different styles and at different levels from beginner to the more advanced. It is important to find a teacher that you feel comfortable working with. Some days you may feel like a strong practice while on others you may want to just chill with a more passive approach. Choose the classes and teachers that match your requirements.
The Yoga Room also runs teacher training courses for those that want to deepen their practice and knowledge of yoga.
Judy Krupp: founder and director of The Yoga Room & Life Centre, has been teaching for over 20 years. Originally trained in the Iyengar system, Judy now teaches a multifaceted approach, blending the art of asana practice with the science of the mechanics of movement. Judy has an astute knowledge of the body and its movement and she lives and teaches with both humour and passion. She encourages her students to move beyond their perceived limitations, whilst working at an individual pace with grace and core stability.
Sally Lockley: Sally Lockley lives locally with her family and has been practicing yoga for the last ten years and teaching for 2 1/2 years. She completed her training in 2005 attaining a Diploma in Health for Yoga at Nature Care College and has studied with many teachers Angela Farmer, Donna Farhi, Rodney Yee to name a few.
Her style of teaching and practice are greatly influenced by using the “breath” as a guide to finding one’s own pace allowing the release of tension and stress and at the same time being able to re-energise. These classes are gentle Hatha Yoga, encouraging movement within the asanas.
Pam Sherwin:
Pam was first introduced to yoga more than 20 years ago while a senior ballet student. Convinced of yoga's benefits on the body, mind and spirit she undertook the Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teaching offered by Nature Care College and then undertook further studies in prenatal yoga. Her teaching favours a Vinyasa style, moving at all times with a conscious awareness of the breath. In her prenatal classes she aims to assist students to find a physical and mental balance in their ever changing bodies. This class aims to release tension, improve concentration and help students find an inner calmness through gentle exercises that build strength, flexibility and promote balance. Students should leave her class feeling calm and renewed. Her prenatal class is suitable for students who are more than 12 weeks pregnant or women looking for a gentle, nurturing yoga style.
Sophie Hamley: has been practising yoga for fifteen years, as a student of Judy Krupp, and teaching for five. Sophie is passionate about yoga as a complete, eight-limbed practice and its ability to transform lives, both immediately and long into the future; she believes that yoga has something to offer everyone no matter what their age, level of ability or background. Her classes are creative, fun and challenging sometimes all at the same time. Sophie’s teaching style is most strongly influenced by Judy Krupp and the Iyengar tradition, but she has also explored the teachings of others, most recently Shiva Rea, and she loves the opportunities that yoga brings her, as a student and teacher, to explore all aspects of being.
Conny Pulvermacher:
Conny’s gentle movement class is ideal for early beginners to yoga practice and those who are restricted in their movement due to injury, or the consequences of long-established postural habits and patterns of stress and tension.
Her classes combine basic yoga postures with gentle and supportive movement and breath flow sequences to improve flexibility, release restriction and tension in the joints, stimulate circulation and gradually build stability and strength. No previous experience necessary.
Marita Dortins:
With a background in gymnastics, Marita has always had a passion for the physical. When she attended her first yoga class in 1998 she fell in love instantly. Since then, she has attended teacher training courses both in Australia and India, and continues to develop her knowledge and her own practice by attending regular classes, and workshops with international teachers. Marita combines her commitment to yoga with an interest in writing by contributing articles Australian Yoga Life magazine.
Marita enjoys challenging her students, but also likes to remind them that while yoga is important, it doesn’t always need to be serious.
Marguerite Wetton: Marguerite uses dynamic flow sequences drawn from traditional hatha yoga, with exploration through developmental movements and organ awareness. The emphasis is on meridian flow and body-mind integration.
Peter Mackie:
has studied with teachers in both the physical and meditative side of yoga. These include Swami Nirmalananda, Eve Sheaves, John Cooper, Bernie Peterson, Rodney Yee, John Oglivy, and the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order.
Peter sees yoga as a practice that re-connects the body and mind as they are in the here and now.
Through the practice of asana, breath awareness and meditation students of yoga begin to develop a sense of wholeness and wellness. Although Peter's classes can be challenging they cater for all levels of reasonably able students in a non confronting atmosphere.
